Many people remember a fallen soldier as a person in uniform. Sometimes that soldier is the four legged friend who saved your life by being a bomb-sniffing dog and finding the IED and warns you about it before it explodes. This is a sad but beautiful picture of pure respect for 2 fallen heroes.
This breaks my heart.
I watched Pom Poko again last night, and for some reason, it made me really miss my papa.
Papa was a fantastic man and was my father figure. He owned his own business and employed several family members. He always made sure everyone was taken care of. He always had everyone’s best interest in mind. He never compromised his morals and had an amazing work ethic. He had cancer, and still worked. He worked every day until one day he didn’t wake up due to a hematoma…and then he fought for nearly 3 weeks post surgery to make sure all his loose ends were tied up…and on top of all that, he was hilarious. He was good humored even while dying. He’s the responsible one for the weird sense of humor in my family that got passed down.
I’m the only one in my family that hasn’t worked for the family business. I think he was kind of happy I made my own way.
He died a little after 2am on June 5th, 2008. I put one of his favorite cigars in his hands right before he was buried. It’s too bad we didn’t have a chance to smoke cigars together one more time.
